Policies
-------------------------------

Supervising Children's Use:

It is the library’s policy that parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for the behavior of their children and for deciding what library resources are appropriate for their children. Parents and legal guardians are expected to supervise their children while in the Library. There will be some resources, which parents may feel are inappropriate for their children. Parents should let their children know if there are materials, which they do not want them to use.

Internet Policy:

Recognizing that the Internet represents an important and vital electronic resource that allows access to ideas, information and commentary from around the world, the Scottsville Free Library is pleased to provide Internet access to library users as part of its collection and resources, including those available from the Internet.  The purpose of this policy is to provide safe access to this valuable resource.

The Internet offers access to a wealth of excellent material. However, because the Internet provides easy access to a diverse array of resources, the library does not endorse the viewpoints nor can it vouch for the accuracy, authority, timeliness or usefulness of all the information found on it.  The Internet is an unregulated medium that changes constantly and unpredictably.  The Scottsville Free Library is not responsible for the content of sites on the Internet.

The library offers a home page with recommended sites selected by librarians using standard evaluation criteria for electronic sources.   Since not all sites on the Internet are accurate, current or complete, users must exercise critical judgment to evaluate the validity and appropriateness of the information found.

Parents and legal guardians have the ultimate responsibility to monitor and guide their own children's use of all library resources, including the Internet.  Parents are encourage to take an active role in their children's use of the Internet and to talk about their personal values and expectations for their children's use of this resource.

A copy of the Scottsville Free Library Internet policy and Internet safety policy statement is available at the library.
