From around 1890 to around 1935, architects sometimes looked to the European Renaissance period for inspiration. They brought designs from Italy to America and reinterpreted them for both public buildings and private residences.

Renaissance Revival buildings were based on the rather cubic structures of 16th century Italy. However, sometimes architects would add details from other eras.

Features:

  • Cut stone block exteriors
  • Elaborate lintels over windows and doors
