The Rochester Americans Hockey Team and the public libraries in Monroe County have united to sponsor a reading program, Reading Power Play. The program will consist of both a series of Amerks player appearances at participating libraries (see visitation schedule below), beginning November 16th, and a reading program and contest for youth that will take place from December 27, 2005 - February 4, 2006. During the hockey season, Amerk
players will visit participating libraries to read to youth, talk about
the importance of reading in their chosen field, and to demonstrate and
talk about hockey equipment and the game uniform. Each appearance also
features a raffle for Amerk memorabilia and an autograph session by the
visiting player.
