General

Does the Library have a public photocopy machine?
Yes, the Chili Library has a black and white photocopy machine and the cost per page is $.20.
 

Does the library have a fax machine for public use?
Yes.  The charge is $1.00 per page within the 585 area code and $2.00 per page outside the 585 area code.  There is an additional $1.00 charge if you use a cover page.

 

Circulation

How do I get a library card? 
The Chili Public Library requires a picture ID with your current address (i.e., driver’s license, passport, work ID.)  If your ID does not have a current address, the library accepts a checkbook, piece of mail (utility bill), or pay stub with your address in addition to your picture ID.

For a child to receive a library card, their parent or legal guardian must fill out an application in our presence.  There is no age limit for a library card.


How long can I keep the items I check out?
DVDs and videos have a one week loan period.  All other materials have a three week loan period.  Most items may be renewed twice except:  DVDs marked “New,” items on hold for another patron, and Quick Reads.
 

How much are the fines?
Fines are $.35 per item per day that the library is open.


Is there a limit to the number of items I can check out?
Yes, there is a limit of seven DVDs per individual.  All other items are unlimited. 


May I return my items to any library?
Yes, items from the Chili Public Library may be returned to any Monroe County public library.


How can I renew materials or check my account?
As long as your account is in good standing, most materials may be renewed twice.  Go online at www.chililibrary.org, then click "Renew Your Books" on the left side of the page, or you may call (585) 428-4455.  To check your account online go to our website stated above and click on "Your Library Card Account" or call our library at 889-2200.

 

Computers

Does the library have computers I can use?
The Chili Library has 20 computers for the public’s use located throughout the library which have Microsoft Office 2007 and Internet access.  There are also five computers dedicated to the Monroe County Library System catalog. 


How much does it cost to print?
Printing in black and white is $.20 per page and color printing is $1.00 per page.


Does the library provide free wireless Internet access?
Yes!  You are invited to use library’s Internet network using your own wireless-enabled laptop computer.  Please know that this is not a secure network.

Can I search for a book online?
Yes, you may access the Monroe County Library System catalog through our website, www.chililibrary.org.  Both the Classic Catalog and CatalogPlus are available for your use to browse books, movies, audio books and more.


Can I put a book on hold?
Yes, you may put a book on hold using one of three methods:  online through our website at www.chililibrary.org, in person at the library's Information Desk, or by phone at 889-2200 x3.  A fee of $1.00 will be charged for each hold requested when the item is picked up, and there is no limit for the number of hold items per library card.

 
Does the library have tax forms?
The library stocks most basic federal and state tax forms during tax season (January through April 15th).   We also have reproducible tax forms available for photocopying and forms may be downloaded from the state and federal websites, www.tax.state.ny.us/forms and www.irs.gov.

 

Miscellaneous

Are you accepting volunteers?
Though all our volunteer positions are presently filled, we appreciate your interest and invite you to come in and complete a volunteer application, available at the library, for us to keep on file should an opening occur. 


How may I donate to the library? 
Donations may be made to the Chili Public Library Memorial Fund.  Patrons who choose to make a donation in memory or in honor of a friend or loved one should send a check with an accompanying note stating the honoree’s name.   With the money the library will purchase a book and will insert a special bookplate acknowledging the donation The library will notify the family about the donation.  All donations made to the Chili Public Library are tax deductible. Gifts to the Memorial Fund will be acknowledged by the Director.  Questions regarding donations to the library should be directed to Jeff Baker (585-889-2200) at jbaker@libraryweb.org.
